Garden Thoughts…

But first let me introduce myself.

I’m Sue/Susie Lebsack and I found Saguaro, divinely and specifically Kelley, not too long after my son, Noel died in July of 2019. I was walking my dogs and someone I hadn’t met said hello. She asked how I was doing and I honestly said, not too well. She told me she heard that there was a lady minister at Saguaro who might be good for me if I wanted to talk with someone. I ended up counseling with Kelley. I really do feel that was God in that unknown neighbor, in that moment in time.

Making Sustainable Dietary Choices that Work for You

Warbler’s Wisdom, a weekly column by Jocelyn Hartley, our Creation and Justice Fellow from Disciples Home Mission and Green Chalice

When I think about pollution, images of cars, planes, and factories spewing black smoke into the air immediately spring to mind. What doesn’t usually come to mind is the jug of milk in my fridge. But around a quarter of global greenhouse gases–or climate change causing gases–are emitted by the agricultural industry. And greenhouse gas emissions are only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the environmental impacts of agriculture; agriculture also contributes to deforestation, soil erosion, water contamination, and an increasing threat of antibiotic resistance.

You may be thinking, “Well, isn’t that lovely. The most basic part of my existence–eating–condemns me to a life of environmental degradation.” But it doesn’t have to be that way. There are many choices you can make to eat more sustainably. And what’s even better, making these sustainable choices will benefit your health as well. Today I’ll focus on just two important sustainable dietary choices you can make:

Warbler’s Wisdom, a weekly column by Jocelyn Hartley, our Creation and Justice Fellow from Disciples Home Mission and Green Chalice

If you’ve been keeping up with the news about the 2025 federal budget bill, dubbed the ‘One Big Beautiful Bill’, you’ve probably heard that it will reduce eligibility for welfare programs like SNAP food assistance and Medicaid. As the desert begins to warm and the days stretch just a little longer, we’re entering a sacred season at Saguaro Christian Church—one shaped by vision and rooted in the stories that make us who we are.

This is a time to gather around the campfire of community and listen deeply to the voices among us. To trace God’s faithfulness not just in scripture, but in the lives of the people who make this place the holy one it is—their journeys, their questions, their quiet courage. As we explore our guiding vision together, we’ll discover how it pulses in real time through acts of service, the resilience of our older generations, the wonder of our younger ones, and the dreams of those standing on the threshold of something new.

Bring sunglasses, wear a spring/floral outfit, and dust off those old big church hats if you have one for our garden party! We can't wait to see you there!

Lent 2025

This Lent; Our Dream Team imagined together our theme : An Opportune Time.

“An Opportune Time.” comes from Luke’s Gospel, right after Jesus is baptized. From that moment forward, everything shifts. His life, his purpose, his calling—it all unfolds piece by piece. That’s what Lent offers us, too. A chance to move forward. To let go of what holds us back and embrace something deeper. A time to be shaped, stretched, and maybe even surprised by what we find along the way.
