Lent 2025
Lent; An Opportune Time:
Lent began on Wednesday March 5, marking the time Jesus spent in the desert, where he faced temptation and prepared for his ministry.
Lent is a time for reflection, renewal, and maybe even a little disruption. It’s about more than just giving up sweets or social media (though if that helps, go for it).
Lent is an invitation to be intentional—to slow down, pay attention, and ask ourselves: Who am I becoming? Do the words I say, match the actions I live? Does my attitude reflect the love of God? What in my life keeps me from being close to God? What needs to change?
Lent is an opportunity to pause and examine both our inner lives and our outward actions—to give up habits that may be holding us back or to adopt practices that bring us closer to our values, whether through prayer, service, or mindfulness. It’s an invitation to reexamine our spiritual journeys and to be open to change and growth, both individually and collectively.
This Lent; Our Dream Team imagined together our theme : An Opportune Time.
“An Opportune Time.” comes from Luke’s Gospel, right after Jesus is baptized. From that moment forward, everything shifts. His life, his purpose, his calling—it all unfolds piece by piece. That’s what Lent offers us, too. A chance to move forward. To let go of what holds us back and embrace something deeper. A time to be shaped, stretched, and maybe even surprised by what we find along the way.
Now, we know transformation isn’t always easy. Change rarely is. Sometimes it comes through struggle, sometimes through stillness, but always through showing up.
And that’s what Lent invites us to do: show up. In worship, in prayer, in moments of quiet, in hard questions, in honest conversations, in silliness, in laughter, in serious reflections, and by being real, and true and honest, and by staying at the table.
This is an opportune time, y’all. A time to seek, to listen, to discover. A time to open ourselves to what God is doing in us and around us.
