There Our Hearts Will Be

We don't always think about generosity as something that changes us. We usually think about it in terms of what we give and what our gifts make possible. And certainly, both matter. But Jesus had something more to say about generosity. He understood that what we choose to invest in has a way of shaping our hearts.

Somewhere along the way, we found ourselves sitting beside people who were once strangers but who have now become part of our lives. And before we knew it, we had become part of theirs. That's one of the wonderful things about church. It was never meant to be a collection of individuals who happen to worship in the same building. The church came into being because people discovered that following Jesus meant sharing life with one another.

In 1 Corinthians 2, Paul reminds us that faith isn't built upon having all the answers. It is God's Spirit at work among us, helping us recognize what we might otherwise miss. And I believe some of the most beautiful ways we experience that Holy Spirit are through the relationships we share. This year, our Season of Giving follows the Center for Faith and Giving's theme, "There Our Hearts Will Be," It comes from Jesus' words "For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also."It's a lovely way to think about generosity. What we choose to invest in also shapes what we come to love.

When you give to Saguaro, we aren't only paying bills or funding ministries, although those things matter greatly. We are investing in a community where people can find belonging. We are helping make possible the relationships that carry us through life and the ministry that reaches beyond our doors, into the neighborhood we are part of. Every gift we offer becomes part of something larger than ourselves. Something that continues to grow as God's Spirit works among us, sometimes in ways we may never see or even know about. And perhaps that's one of the most beautiful things about the church. We may never know whose life was changed because this community was here when they needed it.

With open hands and open hearts we seek to live and love like Jesus.

We hope you will join us during our continued season of Gratitude and Giving!
