Update on Casa Alitas

With the lifting of Title 42, the flow of migrants through Tucson diminished. However, numbers are again increasing. Those coming through now are likely to have had the resources to fly to the border, thereby avoiding the current requirement of seeking asylum in the countries traveled through before reaching our border. For most of these migrants, this journey has drained every financial resource they have. There are preparations to expand existing shelter space in anticipation of an increase. No one knows, but what remains constant is our ability to show compassion and kindness.

Some translated messages from our guests:

   “You have shown humanity."
   “This has been God’s love.”

Thank you, Saguaro, for your faithfulness in donating needed clothing over the past two years, and assembling dry milk packets for so many children who likely haven’t had milk for quite a while.

It is necessary to temporarily stop accepting clothing donations at the church while I travel and have surgery. However, the need continues, so please consider taking your donations to St. Mark’s church, 736 E. 2nd St., Mon.-Thurs. 9 am-12 pm.

If you are interested in volunteering, send an email to volunteers@casaalitas.org

There are many ways you can help that can be adapted to your availability and interests. You will make God’s love real.

Muchas gracias.
