Bring a memento for Saguaro’s ofrenda on All Saints Sunday, November 6
We invite you to bring a photo or memento of a loved one, or flowers or food, as we honor those who have gone before us. Additionally, you’ll have an opportunity to write a prayer or remembrance that will be placed in the urn as part of Tucson’s annual All Souls Procession.
Ofrendas are an essential part of the Mexican Day of the Dead celebrations, set up to remember and honor the memory of ancestors. Families set a candle for each deceased relative; the light is thought to guide them on their way back and also symbolizes Jesus Christ reborn, and faith. Flowers, especially marigolds, adorn the altar, along with pictures of loved ones and items of clothing or other memories. Food is specially prepared for the souls, including mole, tamales, dried fruit, hot chocolate, or pan de muerto.
You can set up an ofrenda (“offering” in Spanish) at home, too.
